Royal Tank Regiment trial Elbit Systems’ IronVision™ at Street Fighter II Urban Trials

London, UK, 14 January 2020 – The Royal Tank Regiment (RTR) this week showcased their Street Fighter II modifications, including Elbit Systems’ IronVision™ in a display at Copehill Down.

This follows directly on from ‘Street Fighter’ in December 2018, where members of the RTR were asked to modify a Challenger II to fit what they considered to be the modern requirements of urban warfare.

Many of these modifications revolved around increasing visibility not just for the tank operators but also for infantry units that will be supporting them on the ground.

Since their initial trials with IronVision in January 2019, the British Army and Elbit Systems UK have worked on incorporating 360⁰ situational awareness into the UK’s armoured vehicles, in this case, the Challenger II.

Using a heads-up display, IronVision allows for those operating the tank to have full situational awareness with zero latency. This allows for the crew to have full vision of their surroundings, despite being fully under armour, providing vital added protection and situational awareness in partnership.

Throughout the week commencing 2 December the RTR have been conducting training and familiarisation missions in the modified Challenger II and on Thursday 5 December, these capabilities were displayed to a range of senior military officials, from the Field Army to Dstl.

Martin Fausset, CEO of Elbit Systems UK said:

“It is great to see Elbit Systems UK supporting the UK Armed Forces as they enhance their battlefield protection systems for urban environments. We relish the opportunity to protect our service men and women in the field and are pleased to see the IronVision system delivering in this capacity.”
